Arc... and Arc... and High Ceiling...!!

This is the ceiling of Old Bazaar of Ahwaz. You can see this kind of architecting in central and southern regions of my country,Iran!
Unfortunately, I haven't many information about architecting! but, I think this high ceilings (that made by brick) and that holes in them, cause to cooling the hallway(s)!! I Believe that, this is a smart and creative idea for areas which have long hot season!
